My name is Victory Bassey Okon, and on the 28th of June 2025, I found myself looking back on all the different ways GAMAID Foundation, through God’s Lighthouse Church, has stood by me. The support I’ve received hasn’t been the kind that ticks a box and moves on. It’s been steady, hands-on, and honestly life-changing.
Early in my university days, GAMAID Foundation opened their doors to me and gave me free accommodation for nearly three years. That alone lifted an enormous weight off my shoulders. I no longer had to worry about rent or scramble for somewhere to stay, I had a stable, safe place to live during a season when so much else in my life and career was shifting. Waking up each morning in a home I didn’t have to fear losing meant I could actually pour myself into building a future, instead of constantly wondering where I’d sleep that night.
Through the connections and guidance of GAMAID Foundation, I was also pointed towards work opportunities I might never have found on my own. In 2022, I was brought onto the team at GAMAID Foundation Restaurant (then known as Bethlehem Restaurant), where I picked up real, practical hospitality experience and, more than that, a sense of purpose. Later that same year, I was recommended for a driving role, which I held from 2022 into 2023. It gave me a steady income, but it also stretched me in ways I hadn’t expected. My skills grew, and so did my confidence behind the wheel.
Then came what was easily the hardest season of my life: my father’s burial. And once again, the GAMAID Foundation family showed up. They provided labour support for the funeral, stepping in with setup, coordination, and looking after the guests who came to pay their respects. Having them carry that load made an unbearable time a little lighter, and meant my family could grieve properly, without being pulled in a hundred different directions over logistics.
What GAMAID Foundation has given me goes far beyond anything money could measure. A home when I had nowhere to turn. Work when I had no leads. Fellowship when I felt completely alone. Every kindness has strengthened my faith and deepened my gratitude, and I genuinely believe I’m standing on firmer ground today, more skilled and more confident in the path God has placed before me, because of them.
To GAMAID Foundation and God’s Lighthouse Church, who believed in me, gave me shelter, opened doors I couldn’t open myself, and held me steady through grief: thank you. Your love has been the anchor that kept me through every storm. May God richly bless you for every single life you’ve touched.
