The need

Why itmatters.

The clinic is not far. The fee is.

In communities across Akwa Ibom and beyond, people fall ill, get injured, lose their sight gradually, or survive an accident, only to face a bill they cannot afford to pay. The cost of a scan can delay a diagnosis. The cost of transport can keep a child from getting care. The cost of admission can leave a young professional at home while their condition worsens.

Healthcare in Nigeria is not inaccessible because healthcare does not exist. It is inaccessible because, for too many families, the gap between the cost of care and what they can afford is impossible to bridge.

GAMAID Health exists to help bridge that gap.

What we do

How the programmeworks.

6 parts to GAMAID Health

  1. Emergency and life-saving interventions

When someone is admitted to hospital and cannot pay, we help. We fund hospital bills, admission fees, treatment costs, and medication for people who have no other means. We support emergency surgeries, post-accident care, MRI scans, and stay with people through the process, where necessary.

  2. Diagnostics

The right treatment begins with the right information. We fund and subsidize medical tests, laboratory investigations, and imaging scans because a diagnosis should never wait on someone’s bank balance. Getting the right diagnosis early can support timely treatment and help prevent greater costs later.

  3. Eye care and dental care

Some of the most life-limiting conditions can be treated when identified early. We fund and subsidize eye tests and prescription glasses for people who cannot see clearly and may have gone blind without care. We cover dental extractions, cleaning, and treatment of infections that can cause significant pain and complications when left untreated.

  4. Blood donation coordination

For patients who urgently need a transfusion, we help coordinate blood donation by connecting patients in need with willing donors quickly, when time matters most.

  5. Care and visits

Paying the bill is one part of what we do. The other part is showing up. GAMAID staff and volunteers visit patients in hospital, accompany people to appointments they cannot face alone, bring food during recovery, and continue follow-up support at home, where necessary. The people we serve do not only need financial assistance. Sometimes, they also need someone to be with them.

  6. Health education

We run health awareness sessions in communities, schools, and our own programmes, covering prevention, hygiene, nutrition, and when to seek care. Early knowledge and timely action can help prevent health problems from becoming emergencies.

Who it is for

The peoplethis is for.

GAMAID Health is for low-income individuals and families who cannot afford treatment or the transport to reach it. This includes:

  • Children, elderly persons, and people with no income or savings facing a health emergency
  • Students and young workers whose salary or stipend cannot cover the cost of care
  • People in our other programmes, those we are already feeding, sheltering, or educating, who face a health need on top of everything else
  • Families referred to us by hospitals, community leaders, churches, or others who know the situation

Cases are assessed transparently and prioritised by urgency. No one is required to hold a particular faith, come from a particular background, or already know us to receive help.

Help is never conditional on faith. Other ways to reach us

If it is an emergency, go to hospital first, then call us from there. For non-emergency situations, call the office, describe what is happening, and we will assess the situation and communicate what we can cover. We partner with accredited hospitals and specialists and when possible, will connect you to the right care.

  • EmergencyGo to hospital first. Call us from there. We will respond as fast as we can.
  • Non-emergencyCall or WhatsApp 0810 864 5616 and describe the situation. We will assess the situation and communicate how we can help.
  • ReferralIf you are a hospital worker, community leader, or friend referring someone, call the same number.
Fund health

Every gift hereis spent on health.

Every gift to health is spent on health, nothing else. When you give to GAMAID Health, you are paying a hospital bill, covering a scan, buying glasses for someone who has not been able to see properly in years, or putting someone in a chair next to a patient who has no one else.

Card, bank transfer or USSD in naira; dollars or pounds from abroad; PayPal, Zelle or GoFundMe from the US.

We will show what a gift pays for once the costs are confirmed against our records.
