The need

Why itmatters.

At GAMAID Foundation, we believe that the most dignified form of help is the kind that eventually makes itself unnecessary.

Our empowerment programmes are designed not to create dependence, but to create capacity: giving people the practical skills, work experience, and business foundation they need to build sustainable, independent lives.

We do not simply teach. We walk with our trainees from the first day of class to their first day of work.

What we do

How the programmeworks.

6 parts to GAMAID Empowerment

  1. Hands-on trades

We offer practical, instructor-led training in a wide range of vocational skills including carpentry, tailoring and fashion design, masonry, painting, catering and culinary arts, cleaning and housekeeping, and farming. Every course is built around real practice, not theory alone.

  2. Digital and creative skills

We train participants in the skills powering today’s economy: cinematography, graphic and multimedia design, audio and video editing, web development, content writing, and project management. These programmes open doors to remote work, freelancing, and entrepreneurship in Nigeria’s growing digital marketplace.

  3. Sponsored external training

For trades that require specialist expertise, we partner with qualified external trainers to deliver courses in welding, advanced carpentry, baking, and other specialised fields, expanding what our trainees can learn and where they can go.

  4. Courses of 3 to 12 months

All our programmes run for between three and twelve months, depending on the trade or skill. Every course includes hands-on practice sessions and provides participants with the materials they need to learn properly.

  5. Employment pathways

Completing a GAMAID empowerment course is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning. Trainees receive first-priority placement for work opportunities within GAMAID’s own enterprises, including our kitchen, farm, and sewing operations. Many are also placed with our partner organisations and businesses in Uyo and beyond.

  6. Business start-up support

For our strongest and most committed trainees, GAMAID provides seed funding and practical business advice to help them launch their own small enterprises. We believe that a trained person with a start is a powerful thing.

Who it is for

The peoplethis is for.

Our empowerment programmes are open to anyone of teachable age who is willing to learn a trade and commit to completing the full course. We especially prioritise:

  • People already in our other GAMAID programmes: those in our shelter homes, receiving our feeding support, or on our scholarship programme
  • Individuals leaving prison who need a fresh start and a new skill to go with it
  • Young people without income or employment pathways, particularly in Uyo and surrounding communities
  • Women seeking economic independence and a sustainable livelihood

In their own words.

  • I was part of the Decent Dresses fashion programme. We learned to make different outfits, and it was more than just vocational training. It was fun. Learning together and helping one another was amazing.

  • GAMAID has been a lifeline for me. Through their vocational training, I learned skills like video editing, writing, and social media management, and now I have a remote job that takes care of my needs.
