My name is Miriam Nwaigwe. I am twenty nine years old and I live in Uyo. Around the time I learnt about the GAMAID Foundation, I was in a difficult spot. I had just completed my National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), and found myself completely stranded. I had almost no one to turn to in Akwa Ibom. Yes, there was a cousin in the state, but since we had never been properly introduced, I could not bring myself to knock on his door. Many nights passed where I wondered what would happen next, there was no real promise of safety or comfort either.
Everything shifted when a dear friend of mine first mentioned GAMAID Foundation. I will be honest, I was skeptical at first. I was not sure whether to reach out at all. But the more I heard about the genuine care they were known for, and the more I noticed the kindness in the volunteers I crossed paths with, the more I felt I should take the chance. From the moment I made that first call, I felt a small flicker of hope, after such a long time.
The support from GAMAID Foundation came quickly, and it came in real, practical ways. They gave me somewhere safe to stay, a roof over my head with no rent and no hidden conditions tucked away in the fine print. For months I lived in a home that was warm and full of encouragement, the kind of place that gently keeps you from making desperate choices when you are at your most vulnerable. Alongside the shelter, they offered counselling that helped me work through what I was carrying emotionally and spiritually. Whenever I needed to travel for work, for church or for a medical appointment, they made sure I had transport fare in hand so that I would not be stranded on the road.
The difference all of this has made is hard to put into words. Having a steady home gave me back my sense of dignity and quiet pride in myself. The counselling helped me tend to old wounds and slowly rebuild a healthier relationship with my family, as I began to put into practice what I was learning about forgiveness, honest conversation and mutual respect. Their steady presence also carried me through several deliverances, and those spiritual breakthroughs renewed my faith and filled me with a joy I had almost forgotten.
From the very bottom of my heart, thank you, GAMAID Foundation, for the change you have brought into my life. I thank God for the way His Spirit moves through His people, and I am especially grateful for the CEO of GAMAID Foundation whose vision and grace shape the care that each of us receives when we come looking for help.
