The jobs

Whatvolunteers do.

  • Cooking and serving

in the GAMAID Kitchen. The most-needed and most-regular job.

  • Teaching and tutoring

literacy, numeracy, exam preparation, and digital skills.

  • Driving

food runs, hospital trips, collections of donated goods.

  • Trade skills

tailoring, carpentry, masonry and painting instructors for the empowerment programme.

  • Filming, photography and design

for the multimedia training and for recording the work, with consent.

  • Hospital and home visits

sitting with people who have nobody else.

  • Mentoring

a regular hour with one young person, for at least six months.

  • Legal and medical professionals

clinics and advice sessions, by arrangement.

Time

A single afternoon helps. A regular weekly slot helps more. Mentoring needs a commitment of at least six months, because the young person will notice if you stop.

Safeguarding

Volunteers who work with children, or with adults who are vulnerable, are asked for references and an identity check, are never alone with a child, and follow our safeguarding statement. This protects the people we serve, and it protects you.
