The need

Why itmatters.

We’ve seen students waiting for their next allowance, graduates without work, low-paid workers and families going through a difficult month go hungry quietly.

Nobody can study, train or look for work on an empty stomach. So this is where everything else starts. Not because it is the most dramatic need, but because it is the most fundamental one. You cannot sit in a seminar on financial prudence if you have not eaten since yesterday. You cannot show up for a skills class if your body is running on nothing. You cannot sleep if you are thinking about where tomorrow’s meal will come from.

What we do

How the programmeworks.

4 parts to GAMAID Food

  1. GAMAID Kitchen

Open every day, Monday to Sunday. The kitchen is at 15 Ikpa Road, Uyo. Run in partnership with Bethel Farms, which supplies vegetables, garri, eggs, poultry and fish directly from its own farmland.

  2. Free meals

We aim to provide one meal a day, free of charge, for students who have run out of allowance, unemployed graduates, widows, orphans, displaced families, and people who are strangers to the city and have arrived with nothing.

  3. Food items and food packs

Groceries assembled into household packs for orphans, widows, displaced families, and people living in GAMAID shelters. Donated food items from individuals and organisations are received, inspected for quality, and repacked into healthy, usable portions for distribution.

  4. Farm-sourced produce

Bethel Farms, GAMAID’s agricultural partner, supplies the kitchen with fresh vegetables, garri, eggs, poultry and fish. Farm-to-kitchen sourcing reduces cost, improves nutritional quality, and gives the kitchen a supply chain it can count on.

Who it is for

The peoplethis is for.

We ask two questions: are you hungry, and can you afford a meal? If the answer to the second is no, we provide.

  • Students between allowances or waiting for a transfer that has not arrived
  • Unemployed graduates looking for work and managing tight finances
  • Low-income workers for whom a subsidised meal makes a real difference to the month
  • Widows, orphans and people without family support in Uyo
  • Displaced families and people new to the city without income or a settled home
  • People in GAMAID’s other programmes: shelter residents, trainees, scholarship recipients

In their own words.

  • GAMAID has been a lifeline for me. Bethlehem Kitchen fed me when I couldn’t afford meals. Because my basic needs were being met, I could focus entirely on building my skills. That stability changed everything.
