My name is Joy Akpan, and I am an adult living in Nigeria. Before I knew about GAMAID Foundation, I was struggling just to keep up with my most basic needs. The financial hardship I was facing was so heavy that I would constantly find myself wondering how I would pay rent, or even where my next single meal was going to come from. With no stable housing, I always felt unsettled and exposed.
In 2022, when everything seemed to be at its absolute lowest, GAMAID Foundation offered me a place in their family housing programme. For the first time in a long while, I had safe, dignified shelter. They started covering my rent and food expenses, so I no longer had to go to bed hungry or sleep in uncertainty. They backed that up with regular meals to keep me well nourished, spiritual counselling to strengthen my heart, and a job support initiative that placed me in housekeeping work where I could earn honest money.
Over the past three years, from 2022 to 2025, their combined support, totalling well over ₦1.5 million in food, rent, transport stipends (₦130,000 in 2025 alone), and even an interest free loan of ₦350,000, has given me far more than just financial relief. It restored my hope, and it gave me the room to focus on my spiritual growth, without ever having to beg or compromise my values to get by.
Thanks to the steady, unwavering care of GAMAID Foundation, I have found real stability, I have discovered strength I never knew was inside me, and I have learnt what it truly means to be part of a community that genuinely cares. I am so deeply grateful to the team, the sponsors and the volunteers for their love, their prayers and their generosity. I pray that God keeps blessing them abundantly, meeting every single one of their needs according to His riches in glory.
