My name is Emediong Edem. Money was tight when I had begun attending the university as a fresher. At times, I would worry about what to eat and how I was going to afford some school needs. Sometimes, my heart became troubled when certain needs in school were mentioned, and I wondered how I was going to afford those things.

I also had a need for accommodation. Things began to turn out better when a friend introduced me to GAMAID Foundation in early 2024. Not long after, they gave me a safe place to stay, and that shelter became more than just a place of residence, it became a home.

I experienced communal living for the first time, and it was beautiful. I was living with people of like minds, people who love God, and in a place where people could understand me. Living there taught me what family bonding truly feels like. We shared meals, encouraged one another, and I learned many things from different people. It also helped to improve my culinary skills, as I got to learn from others.

GAMAID Foundation did not just stop at giving me a place to stay. There were times when I could not afford feeding, and I sometimes had as little as ₦1,000 or ₦1,500 for a whole week, which could not meet my needs.

They helped me get jobs in cooking and cleaning, and I love cooking. These jobs were not just about the money—they helped rebuild my confidence and helped me rediscover myself. The more I cooked, the more I learned, and the better I became.

Cleaning and helping to keep our shared spaces tidy also taught me that there is real dignity in honest work, and that experience helped me learn how to clean better.

The way their interventions impacted me runs deep. They also provided me with clothes, shoes, and other valuables that have helped me greatly.

This foundation has been so much more than just a foundation to me. They have been comfort, strength, and a fresh reason to look forward to tomorrow. Their kindness carried me through my hardest moments and set me on steady ground.

From my heart, thank you, GAMAID Foundation. May God keep blessing this work and stretching your reach so that many more families and individuals can experience the same hope that you brought to me.

God bless you.
