My name is Uduak Joseph, I am 23 years old, and I live in Uyo. Before GAMAID Foundation came into my life, I was carrying a kind of financial weight that just refused to let go. There were days when hunger would not let me concentrate on anything, and nights I would lie awake wondering where my next meal or even a place to sleep would come from. Trying to handle both shelter and food at the same time felt like too much for one person, and each week that passed only made me more anxious about how I was going to continue school and still take care of my family.
I first heard about GAMAID Foundation through my church, and in 2021 they truly became my lifeline. When my late father was seriously ill, they came through with medical support and stood by me emotionally during those long hours at his bedside. When the time came to lay him to rest, GAMAID Foundation contributed meaningfully towards the burial, so my family could honour him properly without drowning in expenses we could not handle.
That same year, they sent me regular feeding stipends that carried me through a tough school season. That money covered my breakfasts and lunches when I genuinely had nothing else. They also blessed me with money to travel and see my father while he was still ill, and that gesture alone reminded me that I was not walking through my grief by myself. Then in 2023, when the small accommodation I was managing became impossible to keep up with, they gave me an affordable place to stay, and when I started falling behind, they kindly cancelled the rent entirely. For one year and three months, I had a safe, rent free home where I could actually rest, study and gather myself again.
All in all, their support through food, shelter, medical care and financial help came to around ₦200,000, and it became the ground I could finally stand on again. With every meal I ate, every night I slept under a secure roof, and every kind word of advice I received, I could feel my hope returning bit by bit. My family also rested easier knowing I was being looked after, and we found a quiet peace even in the middle of our loss.
To the sponsors, the volunteers and every single person on the GAMAID Foundation team, please accept my deepest thanks. Your kindness turned my darkest days into a season of healing and growth. You gave me more than help, you gave me back my dignity, my stability and the freedom to chase my dreams again. May God bless you richly for every life you continue to lift up.
