My name is Ifiok Okon. I am thirty two years old, and I live in Uyo.

Not too long ago, me and my family were going through a very hard time. Things had become so tight that we could not afford rent, and even putting food on the table was a daily struggle. To make matters worse, a medical emergency came up, and the hospital bills that followed nearly finished us. Hunger on one side, no proper accommodation on the other side, and a sick family member in the middle of it all. Honestly, every single day was just about trying to hold things together and keep my family safe.

It was through my church that I heard about GAMAID Foundation, and from the moment they came in, things began to change for us.

For close to four years now, GAMAID Foundation has made sure that me and my family always have a roof over our heads. In 2024, they gave me an interest free loan of ₦130,000 to sort out our rent so that my family could come and join me. And when things got tight again and we did not even have money for food, they added another ₦20,000 to help us feed. For the past seven months, my small boy has been on their monthly feeding programme, where he receives ₦20,000 every month, and they also contributed ₦16,000 to help balance his school fees. On top of all that, they have stood by me with counselling when I was at my lowest, they have helped me find meaningful work, and they have taken care of medical needs when I had nowhere else to turn.

The change in our lives is something I cannot fully put into words. Having a stable place to stay meant my family could be together again under one roof, and that alone restored our dignity and gave us room to heal. We started eating regularly, and the constant hunger that used to distract us was no longer a problem. My son being on the feeding list and getting help with his school fees opened up a fresh chapter of hope for him, and through the job connections GAMAID Foundation gave me, I was able to stand on my own feet again and even find joy in being useful to others.

I give all the glory to God, and I thank GAMAID Foundation from the bottom of my heart. He is using their hands to reach people like me. They did not just give my family shelter and food, they gave us back our faith in people, and our belief that good still exists. May God continue to bless this ministry, and may many more families come to experience the kind of love and care we have experienced. Amen
