Medical response after the 17 November 2024 accident
Twenty-five people travelling to a school outreach were in a serious road accident. GAMAID paid the hospital bills, scans and collars, fed and visited the injured, and housed some through recovery.
On 17 November 2024 a group travelling to a school for an outreach were involved in a serious motor accident. Twelve were critically injured.
GAMAID's health programme stepped in immediately: admission and treatment costs, X-rays and CT scans at a private hospital when the public one lacked the equipment, soft and rigid cervical collars, surgery for fractured femurs, walking aids, food and toiletries during hospital stays, and caregivers at the bedside. Several of the injured stayed in GAMAID housing for months afterwards while they recovered.
All twenty-five recovered. Five of them told their stories on the health programme page of the old site: Ambikyavomba D., Gesiere A., Edikan E., Charity O. and Magdalene P.
