Anchored in Faith: Victory Bassey Okon’s Story of Church Support

My name is Victory Bassey Okon, and on June 28, 2025, I looked back on the many ways that GAMAID Foundation, through God’s Lighthouse Church, has supported me with tangible acts of care that carried me through some of life’s most challenging seasons. Their support has been profound and life-changing.

Early in my academic journey in the university, GAMAID Foundation opened its doors and granted me free accommodation for nearly three years. This blessing relieved me of the crippling burden of rent and provided a stable and safe environment during a critical period as I transitioned in my career and personal life. Waking each morning in a place of shelter, I was able to focus on building my future without the dread of where I would lay my head at night.

Also, through the connections and guidance of the CEO of GAMAID Foundation, Pastor Ita Udoh, I received invaluable job recommendations. In 2022, I was invited to join the team at GAMAID Restaurant (then Bethlehem Restaurant), where I gained practical hospitality experience and a sense of purpose. Later that year, I was put forward for a driving position—a role I held from 2022 through 2023—which not only brought a reliable source of income but also expanded my skills and confidence behind the wheel.

In perhaps my most vulnerable moment—my father’s burial—the GAMAID Foundation family rallied around me once again. They provided labor support for the funeral preparations, helping with everything from setup and coordination to ensuring guests were cared for. Their hands-on assistance lightened the weight of those sorrowful days and allowed my family to grieve without the extra burden of logistical details.

The Foundation’s generosity gave me far more than money could buy: a home when I had none, work opportunities when I had none, and fellowship when I felt alone. Each act of kindness has strengthened my faith and deepened my gratitude. Because of their support, I stand today more grounded, more skilled, and more confident in the path God has set before me.

To GAMAID Foundation and God’s Lighthouse Church who believed in me, offered me shelter, opened doors of opportunity, and lifted me in my time of grief—thank you. Your love has been the anchor that kept me steady through every storm. May God richly bless you for every life you touch.
