My name is Theresamary Edowaye.
In 2019, I was rounding off my final year at the University of Uyo, and to be honest, I was struggling. Things were hard at home, and feeding on campus became a real problem for me. There were days I would sit in class with an empty stomach, just trying to follow what the lecturer was saying. You cannot imagine what it is like, trying to read for exams when you are not even sure where your next meal is coming from. It was affecting my health, and it was affecting my studies.
That was when GAMAID Foundation came in, and honestly, they did not come small.
From 2019 to 2021, they were sending me feeding stipends, sometimes ₦3,000, sometimes ₦5,000, and somehow it was always at the exact time I needed it. People may look at the amount and think it is small, but for a student like me at that time, it meant I could eat three times a day and face my books with a clear head.
When it was time for NYSC in 2021, GAMAID Foundation showed up again. They gave me free accommodation for some months while I was preparing for camp. No rent, no stress, nothing. I just focused on my registration and got myself ready. After service, when I came back in 2022, they still kept me in the accommodation, and up till now, I have never paid rent. They also gave me a loan of ₦20,000 to sort out my NYSC registration and camp expenses. I do not know how I would have managed without that kind of support.
And it did not stop with me. When my parents were struggling to complete the rent for our family house, GAMAID Foundation gave us ₦200,000 so we could settle it. That alone brought peace to our home. Beyond that, they have helped me with discounted healthcare, connected me to job placements through their partners, Amazing Christian Girls Housekeeping, Bethel Farms and Bethlehem Kitchen, and even put me through skill acquisition programmes that I am still benefiting from today.
When I look at where I started and where I am now, I just have to thank God, and I have to thank GAMAID Foundation. My school is finished. My NYSC is done. My family is fine. I have a roof over my head, my health is sorted, and my future is looking bright.
To GAMAID Foundation, and to everybody whose money, time and prayers keep this work going, thank you. May God bless you the way you have blessed me.
