I’m Elizabeth Philip and I am from Esit Eket in Akwa Ibom State.
During my final year in 2021, in the first semester, I faced a pressing challenge, I needed to pay my school fees, but I was financially constrained. I had hoped the money would come from my mum, but her salary was not due until after the school’s payment deadline. Missing that deadline was not an option for me.
At that critical moment, I heard about GAMAID Foundation through my church group. I reached out and requested a loan of ₦23,000. Thankfully, I was granted the loan—and even more remarkable, it was interest-free. With it, I was able to pay my fees before the portal closed. When my mum eventually received her salary, I repaid the loan in full as agreed.
In December 2022, I encountered an even
more urgent situation while preparing for my Call to Bar. To be eligible, I had to complete my Call to Bar clearance, and without it I would not be called. And what is a law degree without being called to the Bar?
Unfortunately, the clearance period came earlier than I had anticipated, and I did not have the funds required for both the clearance process and transportation to Abuja. I had already traveled to Uyo from my NYSC posting in the East to obtain my Law Degree Certificate, one of the clearance requirements, and a significant amount of money had already been spent.
At the time, my family, essentially my mum, as my father was late, was under financial strain. She had expected to support me with a substantial amount for my Call to Bar preparations, but the money would only be available on the day of the ceremony. By then, the clearance window would have closed, and I would have missed my opportunity.
I needed over ₦100,000, but I had nothing. As the days passed and my clearance date drew near, it became clear that help was not coming in time. Two days before my scheduled clearance, I still had no funds, and I was overwhelmed.
Then I remembered GAMAID Foundation.
Once again, I reached out, explaining my situation and requesting financial assistance. By the very next day, I was granted a loan of ₦70,000. Without delay, I traveled to Abuja that same day. Because of that timely intervention, I was able to meet my clearance date and successfully complete the process.
It was more than just financial help, it was a great blessing at a crucial moment.
A few days after my Call to Bar, I repaid the loan in full. To this day, I remain deeply grateful to GAMAID Foundation for their timely support and for playing a vital role in helping me achieve my dream.
