From Struggle to Solace: Uduak Joseph’s Story of Compassionate Care
My name is Uduak Joseph, I’m 23 years old, and I live in Uyo. Before GAMAID Foundation stepped into my life, I was weighed down by relentless financial hardship. There were days when hunger gnawed at my focus, and nights I lay awake wondering where my next meal or my next night’s rest would come from. The crushing burden of securing both shelter and sustenance felt impossible to bear, and each passing week deepened my anxiety about how I would continue my education and care for my family.
I first heard about GAMAID through my church family, and in 2021 the Foundation became my lifeline. During my late father’s serious illness, they provided timely medical support and emotional care, standing with me through the long hours at his bedside. When the time came to lay him to rest, GAMAID contributed significantly toward the obsequies, allowing my family to honor his memory without the strain of overwhelming costs.
That same year, GAMAID sent regular feeding stipends that carried me through a difficult school season—funds that covered breakfasts and lunches when I had nothing else. They also gave me a gracious gift to travel and visit my ailing father, reminding me that I was not alone in my grief. Then, in 2023, when my modest housing arrangement became untenable, they provided me with affordable accommodation—and when I fell behind, they simply lifted the rent altogether. For a full year and three months, I had a safe, rent-free home where I could rest, study, and rebuild my strength.
Altogether, their support—through food, shelter, medical care, and financial assistance totaling around ₦200,000—became the foundation on which I could stand again. With each meal I ate, each night I slept under a secure roof, and each kind word of counsel I received, I felt my hope restored. My family, too, breathed easier knowing I was cared for, and we found renewed peace in the face of loss and uncertainty.
To the sponsors, volunteers, and every member of the GAMAID team: I offer my deepest gratitude. Your compassion transformed my darkest days into seasons of healing and growth. You gave me more than help—you gave me dignity, stability, and the freedom to pursue my dreams once more. May God bless you richly for every life you uplift.
