GAMAID

My name is Emem Abraham. I am a law graduate, and I currently live in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Looking back over the past few years, I can clearly see how pivotal moments of support shaped both my education and my work life. It’s been a journey of growth, skill building, and stability, thanks to the consistent support of the GAMAID Foundation.
Back in 2019, the cost of Law School felt like a mountain I could not climb. My parents tried every plan they could think of, but the figures simply would not add up. Thankfully, I had been introduced to GAMAID Foundation through my church family at God’s Lighthouse.
In November 2019, GAMAID Foundation sent me ₦297,000 to settle my Law School fees. It was initially offered as a loan, with the understanding that if my parents could not repay it, it would be forgiven. True to their word, the debt was eventually written off entirely. That single act lifted an enormous burden from my family and allowed me to focus fully on completing my legal education.
Years later, in 2023, a different challenge emerged. My work began to demand practical skills I had never been trained in. Sound engineering was unfamiliar, video editing felt out of reach, and building a website seemed almost impossible at the time.
Once again, GAMAID Foundation stepped in. They arranged for me to train under a professional sound engineer, an apprenticeship worth hundreds of thousands of naira, which gave me hands-on experience and a solid understanding of audio systems. Around the same period, I began learning video editing, and those skills have since become a regular part of my work. Then, in June and July 2025, they facilitated my participation in a website-building course, equipping me with the ability to build websites from scratch using WordPress.
When I returned to Uyo and resumed work in early 2023, GAMAID Foundation also provided accommodation. From January to June 2023, and later in a fully serviced flat through to February 2025, they covered both my rent and feeding. This support addressed a major concern my father had about me commuting late at night through unsafe areas, and it gave me a stable and secure place to live.
The accommodation and feeding support protected my health and peace of mind, and gave me the room to focus on my work without distraction.
Looking back, I struggle to imagine where I would be without these interventions. The ₦297,000 for school fees enabled me to complete the Nigerian Law School programme without placing my family under financial strain. The training in sound, video, and web development has given me a versatile skill set, allowing me to step in when specialised expertise is needed. The provision of accommodation ensured stability and safety during a critical period of my work life.
Thank you, GAMAID Foundation, for giving me not only the means to complete my legal education but also the practical skills that sustain me today. What you have given me goes far beyond temporary relief. You have helped position me for a life of independence and meaningful contribution to others. I am deeply grateful, and I will carry your kindness with me.
