A Home Restored: Shedrack’s Story of Shelter and Hope
My name is Shedrack Okon Ekpenyong, I am 18 years old, and I live in Uyo. At a time when my life felt uncertain, I faced the reality of having nowhere to call home. With no hostel space, no family ties nearby, and my limited resources stretched to the brink, each night brought the fear of spending hours on the pavement or in crowded public spaces. The weight of not knowing where I would sleep depleted my energy and clouded my focus on anything beyond mere survival.
Everything changed when my aunty, Tina Eze, introduced me to GAMAID Foundation. From the first phone call, I sensed genuine concern for my well-being. Before I knew it, GAMAID arranged a safe place for me to stay—providing stable shelter without rent or hidden fees. Suddenly, the anxiety of finding somewhere to rest evaporated. I had a secure room to call my own, a roof over my head that protected me from the elements, and the peace of mind to plan for my future.
The impact of this simple yet profound gift cannot be overstated. With shelter secured, I was able to regain my dignity and focus on my studies and personal growth. No longer waking before dawn to search for sleeping space, I found the strength each morning to pursue my goals with renewed determination. Gone were the late-night fears and the exhaustion that once threatened to derail my dreams.
