From Care to Career: Ephraim Joe Davies’s Journey of Hope and Stability

I am Ephraim Joe Davies, a 22-year-old student residing on Calabar Itu Road in Itu L.G.A. Before GAMAID Foundation stepped in, my family was in crisis. My mother fell seriously ill and required urgent hospital admission, yet the cost of her treatment loomed over us like an insurmountable mountain. At the same time, I faced the daunting challenge of securing accommodation for my final year at the university—hostel fees were beyond my means, and each night I worried about where I would sleep. Without a reliable place to stay or the means to support my family, I felt the weight of responsibility crushing my spirit.

I first learned about GAMAID through our church family, where a compassionate sister recognized my struggle and introduced me to the Foundation’s volunteers. From the very first conversation, I experienced genuine empathy and a determination to help that filled me with relief. They listened to my story, prayed with me, and assured me that I would not have to face these trials alone.

GAMAID’s support arrived swiftly and tangibly. They provided ₦26,000 for my mother’s medical care, covering hospital bills that we could never have paid ourselves. With her treatment secured, I could focus on my own responsibilities rather than watching helplessly by her bedside. Next, they offered ₦60,000 to secure safe, rent-free accommodation so I could complete my studies without the constant fear of eviction. Finally, they arranged a housekeeping position—a steady job that allowed me to earn additional income and build practical skills. Each of these interventions came at a critical moment, knitting together a safety net of financial provision, shelter, and dignified work.

The impact on our lives has been profound. My mother received the treatment she needed and regained her health without the stigma of medical debt. Having reliable accommodation lifted a tremendous burden off my shoulders, enabling me to settle into my final year with peace of mind and focus fully on my coursework. The housekeeping job not only supplemented my finances but also taught me responsibility, time management, and the value of honest labor. My family and I experienced a restoration of hope: we could breathe again, plan again, and believe in a brighter future.

To the team, sponsors, and volunteers at GAMAID Foundation: I offer my deepest gratitude. Your timely generosity spared my family from despair, guided me away from choices I might have regretted, and carried the burdens we could not bear alone. May your labor continue to bear fruit, and may God replenish your resources as abundantly as you have blessed ours.
