My name is Ephraim Joe Davies, I am 22 years old, and I am a student living along Calabar Itu Road in Itu L.G.A. Before GAMAID Foundation stepped in, my family was honestly in crisis. My mother fell seriously ill and needed urgent hospital admission, yet the cost of her treatment was hanging over us like an impossible mountain we could not climb. On top of that, I was also dealing with the heavy challenge of securing accommodation for my final year at university. Hostel fees were way beyond my means, and every single night I would lie down worrying about where I would even sleep. With no reliable roof over my head and no means to truly support my family, the weight of responsibility was honestly crushing my spirit.
I first heard about GAMAID Foundation through my church family, when a kind sister noticed what I was going through and connected me with their volunteers. From the very first conversation, I felt real, genuine empathy and a true determination to help, and that alone gave me so much relief. They listened to my whole story, prayed with me, and assured me that I would not have to face any of this alone.
The support from GAMAID Foundation came quickly and in very real, tangible ways. They provided ₦26,000 for my mother’s medical care, covering hospital bills we could never have paid ourselves. Once her treatment was secured, I could finally focus on my own responsibilities instead of just standing helplessly by her bedside. Next, they gave me ₦60,000 to secure safe, rent free accommodation so I could complete my studies without the constant fear of eviction. Then they arranged a housekeeping position for me, a steady job that allowed me to earn extra income and pick up practical skills. Each of these interventions came at exactly the right moment, weaving together a real safety net of financial provision, shelter and dignified work.
The impact on our lives has truly been deep. My mother received the treatment she needed and regained her health, all without the heavy stigma of medical debt. Having reliable accommodation lifted such a massive load off my shoulders, allowing me to settle into my final year with real peace of mind and focus fully on my coursework. The housekeeping job did not just bring in extra money, it taught me responsibility, time management and the true value of honest work. My family and I experienced a complete restoration of hope. We could finally breathe again, plan again and genuinely believe in a brighter tomorrow.
To the team, the sponsors and the volunteers at GAMAID Foundation, please accept my deepest thanks. Your timely generosity saved my family from despair, guided me away from choices I might have regretted, and carried burdens that were honestly too heavy for us to bear alone. May your labour continue to bear good fruit, and may God replenish your resources as abundantly as you have blessed ours.
