A Shelter of Relief: Aniekan Umoren’s Journey with GAMAID

I am Aniekan Umoren, a 25-year-old resident of Uyo, and before GAMAID Foundation intervened, my life was shadowed by the constant worry of where I would sleep each night. My hostel rent had expired, and I had not been allocated a new space for the upcoming session. With no funds to secure alternative lodging, I watched my struggling parents stretch their limited resources just to keep me enrolled. Every portal deadline and fee notice compounded the anxiety—without a stable roof overhead, my studies and well-being felt gravely imperiled.

My introduction to GAMAID came through our church family, and from that moment in 2023, everything began to change. The Foundation welcomed me into one of their houses, providing safe, rent-free accommodation that lasted through 2025. Over those two years, I benefited from support valued at approximately ₦126,000—covering not only the monthly rental costs but also utilities and a secure environment in which I could rest and study. That home became more than four walls; it became a haven where I could regain my sense of dignity and purpose.

The impact of this timely provision rippled far beyond mere shelter. With the burden of rent lifted from my parents’ shoulders, they experienced profound financial relief and emotional peace. I, in turn, was able to concentrate fully on my coursework, participate in campus activities, and maintain my health without the stress of nightly uncertainty. The stability of having a dependable place to live renewed my confidence, improved my academic performance, and gave me the freedom to plan for the future instead of merely surviving day to day.

From the bottom of my heart, I extend a heartfelt “thanks a million” to the GAMAID family. Your compassion at a moment of greatest need transformed my home, lifted my spirits, and lightened my parents’ load. May God continue to bless your ministry abundantly as you open doors of hope for countless others—just as you opened a door of safety and relief for me.
